Overheating

Some people lose litres of fluid during a gig. When your body temperature rises and you are dancing, you can be at risk of heat stroke.

What can you do?

You need to drink water regularly. Sip it rather than sculling it! Big gulps of water can be dangerous too. Hopefully you will be able to access free water but if not – then you’ll have to buy it.

Drink 500 ml of water per hour if you are active.
Drink 250 ml of water per hour if you aren’t active.

Take breaks from dancing and allow your body to cool down.

Wear loose fitting clothes preferably in absorbent materials such as cotton.

Be careful if you take drugs. Tablets sold as ecstasy can in fact contain a variety of dangerous substances. Be careful about mixing drugs including taking drugs and drinking alcohol.

Jaw Tension

Jaw tension and teeth grinding can be a side effect of many stimulant and psychedelic drugs. Feeling stressed can produce jaw tension as well!

Regular episodes of jaw tension and teeth grinding can result in cracked or worn down teeth, which doesn't look so good and can result in a big dental bill!

The following things might help:

  • Drinking water - It's a good idea to drink water anyway, but it is also thought that good hydration can help reduce jaw tension.
  • Chewing - Although a mouth guard would work, it probably wouldn't appeal as an accessory for a party or music event. You can chew on a thick piece of material or better still a lolly or chewing gum. Avoid chewing on hard objects such as pencils or sticks as you may crack teeth.
  • Stretching - Regularly stretch the muscles of the jaw and face or massage your cheeks just in front of your ear at the joint where your jaw attaches.
  • Use less! - Jaw tension and teeth griding are likely to be reduced with a lower dosage.

You might need help if:

  • You are experiencing hangovers that are affecting your job or personal relationships
  • You regularly have weird thoughts and feel suspicious of people that you previously trusted
  • You feel concerned that people (including total strangers) are watching you
  • You are using MDMA, meth or other drugs regularly and you have a history of depression
  • You owe a lot of money and you have no way of paying it or you aren’t eating properly because you are spending money on drugs instead of food
  • You are using drugs every weekend or even more frequently

What if someone collapses???

1. Dial 000. Call an ambulance and contact security at the venue.

2. Stay with the person.

3. Check to see if they respond to simple commands such as “Squeeze my hand” or “Open your eyes”.

4. If the person is unconscious and is breathing, lay them on their side in the recovery position

5. If the person is not breathing, start mouth to mouth.

6. Tell the ambulance officer what the person has taken. Police do not listen to ambulance radios and they don’t chase ambulances. Your honesty might save the life of your friend.

Remember – when you’re out clubbing –
REST, RECOVER AND REFUEL.
